The borough's own eco beauty has been crowned Miss Earth England and is now setting her sights on the world title.
It was a dream come true for 19-year-old Kirsty Nichol, who lives near the Angel, Islington, when she won the title of Miss Earth England 2009, sponsored by Club4Climate, in Pentonville Road, Islington.
She will now represent England in the Miss Earth competition in the Philippines on November 8.
The winner will act as the spokes-woman for the Miss Earth Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programme as well as other environ-mental organisations.
She said: "It is the largest modelling competition I have won so it's fantastic. I didn't do much to celebrate but I did order in a pizza.
"I have no idea what my chances are in the Philippines. All I can do is my best. It would be fantastic to have a British winner but I'm looking to learn from the experience."
Kirsty, who moved to Islington earlier this year, battled it out with 65 other contestants over three rounds to take the prize. She had to model a vintage cocktail dress, a hand-made recycled eco-outfit and a traditional long evening gown.
"I came to Islington to further my modelling career. It is so much easier to get to castings and meetings.
"For the competition I made a bikini from leaves which I think impressed. I don't know what else clinched it. I think it was a mix of my looks, my personality and my commitment to the environment."
As Miss Earth England, Kirsty will fulfil a full year of responsibilities in promoting environmental awareness.
She said: "I have decided I will focus on young people and the environment. I want to raise awareness about environmental issues and educate young people on what they can do.
"The environment has become quite fashionable and people are more aware of the issues than ever so now is the perfect time to act. If I can make it fashionable among young people then I can make a difference as they are the future.

Kishore was born on the 12th of May in 1986 to Nirupama and Colonel Sanjay Kishore. She did her schooling at the Lawrence Schoo in Kishore had graduated with a Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM) Degree from the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGHSA) at the Manipal University in Manipal, Karnataka, India in 2008. A CITY geography student has beaten off competition from hopefuls to be crowned Miss Earth Glasgow.
Glasgow University student Sarah Finlay, 22, was named the city's green goddess at the regional heat held in the 29 Club on Sunday night.
Now she will compete against five others for the Miss Earth Scotland title with the winner aiming to beat girls from across Britain in Miss Earth UK at the grand finale in London in August.
The "beauties for a cause" pageant is a modern take on the event by adding an environmental twist.

Sarah, who is being sponsored for Miss Earth UK by McDonald's in Bellshill, isn't in the competition to become a future WAG, model or TV presenter - she really does care about the environment.
In 2004 she helped restore a coral reef off Costa Rica with Raleigh International, while in 2007 she worked on a protected game reserve in Kenya where she met Ewan McGregor.
Sarah told The Glaswegian: "I was really shocked to win.
"Earth UK carries an important message that we should all do our bit for the planet."

Andella Chileshe Mathews, a stunning 20 year old, Sports Science and Management student, was crowned Miss Zambia UK 2008 at a glittering celebrity packed event held on Friday 24 October 2008 at the TROXY in London.
Andella beat seven other finalists at a combined event, which celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Miss Zambia UK Beauty Pageant and the 44th Anniversary of Zambian Independence. 19 year old, Jennifer Mimi Mulenga is first runner-up, while Liseli Likuluta, 18 is second runner-up and also scooped top talent, after performing a mesmerising gymnastic routine.
Out of a total of 20 contestants, the top eight finalists were selected to stage the Grand Finals. To mark the 10th Anniversary. Each of the eight finalists was awarded a title. In addition to the winner and the two runner-ups, other titles were: Musonda Kamfwa Malama -Miss Zambia UK Top Model; Vanessa Mutinta Masuku - Miss Diligence; Luwi Katalayi - Miss Congeniality, Kawanga Oduka- Miss Photogenic; and Chewe Chibamba who received the special award of Miss Independence.
Miss Zambia UK Beauty Pageant is a social responsibility initiative Based on the principle of “Beauty with a Purpose”. The pageant celebrates the beauty of every Zambian woman and is dedicated to the memory of all Zambian women who have died from HIV/AIDS. In remembering Zambian women who have died of HIV/AIDS, Zambians are reminded of their responsibility to the children that their sisters have left behind. The beneficiaries of the Pageant are HIV/AIDS orphans and other underprivileged children in Zambia.
Winners and title-holders use their position and influence during the period of their reign and beyond to raise funds for the welfare of HIV/AIDS children.
Miss Zambia UK 2008 will work with the All Star Kids Charity and the Campaign for the 75,000 Street Children in Zambia.
