THE WINNER OF MISS ALTANTIC INTERNATIONAL 2009 IS MISS ELIANA QUINTERO FROM ECUADOR

Eliana Quintero, Miss Ecuador 22 year-old stand 1.76, was recently crowned Miss Atlantic International 2009in an event held in Punta Del Este, Uruguay.

Her first runner-up was the reigning Miss Teen Costa Rica, Nazareth Cascante, 18. Third place went to Miss Panama, Karina Pinilla, 23, who also won the best national costume award.

Fourteen contestants competed for the title.

ABOUT THE SHOW

One in a Million seeks to discover the best young singer in the country, through several auditions which are held nationwide. The objective of offering huge prize money is to provide the winner with the very best production, marketing strategy and everything else that goes into creating a music superstar. In the later stages of this competition, the progress of the contestants is determined by public voting by phone or text messaging. This is also the first reality singing competition that allows viewers to vote in as well as to vote out the contestants.


JUDGES

Syafinaz Selamat



A familiar face in the local classical and contemporary music scenes, Syafinaz Selamat is a music degree graduate from MARA University of Technology. She has been under the tutelage of Siti Chairani Proehoeman (voice) and Muzaffar Abdullah (pianoforte), veterans in the Malaysian music education and classical performance scene.

Syafinaz is a lyrical soprano, whose performance repertoire includes arias for operas from composers such as Mozart, Puccini, Bellini, Delibes and Verdi. She was chosen to play the role of the soprano solo in the Carl Offs “Carmina Burana” with 100 choir members and the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, conducted by reputed Australian conductor Roland Peelman.

She’s also a prominent singer and host of several musical entertainment shows. Her career achievements as a singer include a Gold Medal in the R&B/Pop/Rock/Contemporary category during the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in 1999. Additionally, she’s been twice nominated in the AIM for Best Female Vocal in an Album.

She’s currently a lecturer at the MARA University of Technology, The National Arts Academy and advisor and vocal master of The National Choir of Malaysia, and is working on her new album.

Syafinaz has also extensive experience as a judge, having been a judge for: “Akademi Fantasia 3”, “Akademi Fantasia 4”. “Who Will Win”, “Mentor” and the voice trainer/music advisor for “Audition II”.

Paul Moss



Paul Moss is famous for not mincing his words to wannabe singers. Though already long renowned as a music producer, Paul Moss really shot to fame during his stint for the past two years as a judge for reality show, Malaysian Idol. He was memorable as the guy who shot down the dreamers from the Real McCoys.

But Paul Moss’ history in music goes back way longer. The New Zealander broke into the scene as a member of the then immensely popular band, ‘Aishah and The Fan Club’. As Musical Director and songwriter of ‘The Fan Club’, the band attained several Gold albums and won the Artist of the Year at the 1991 NZ Music Awards.

After crossing over to Malaysia, he became A&R Director of Positive Tone from its inception in 1994 until 2003. Paul Moss was the man behind the phenomenal successes of many local English acts since he was responsible for the artist signing, artistic direction, recording, production and content development of OAG, Too Phat, Innuendo, Poetic Ammo, Ferhad and many others.

His creative talent as a producer/writer/arranger also earned Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) nominations and Gold and Platinum sales for artists such as OAG, Innuendo and Juliet the Orange. Now a Brand Manager with 8TV, Paul Moss has all the experience, talent and pedigree to back up his job as judge for ‘One in a Million’.

AMERICAN IDOL returns for the much-anticipated eighth season on January 13. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the No. 1 hit series empowers contestants and viewers to share their voice in deciding who will be America's next singing superstar. Every year, tens of thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom. The show's judges – Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and recent addition Kara DioGuardi - traveled to East Rutherford, NJ; Jacksonville, FL; Kansas City, MO; Louisville, KY; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA; and San Juan, Puerto Rico, in search of the next American Idol. They winnow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week for a studio audience and television viewers.

The judges have their say after every performance, but it's the viewing public that determines who will advance to the next round of competition and who will go home. Voting via telephone and text-messaging begins immediately after each performance show, and the results are announced during the following night's broadcast.

Eventually the competition is narrowed down to two finalists who compete for a major recording contract and the American Idol title. SIMON COWELL

birthplace: Brighton, England

Simon Cowell's honesty on American Idol has made him a household name in America. His U.K.-based production company, SYCO, produces the BAFTA Award-winning show, The X Factor, which has also topped the charts in the U.K. Additionally, Simon created and served as executive producer on American Inventor and America's Got Talent.

As a judge, Simon is notorious for his unsparingly blunt and often controversial criticisms, insults and wisecracks about contestants and their singing abilities - or lack thereof. He is often parodied in pop culture. He is known for his work in both the television and music industries, having promoted singles and records for various artists, including television personalities.

In 2008, Simon was named No. 22 on Forbes Magazine's "Celebrity 100 Power List" and No. 29 in 2006. He was named one of People Magazine's 25 Most Eligible Bachelors in 2004, while Entertainment Weekly named him one of the Top Entertainers of the Year. RANDY JACKSON

Randy Jackson, a Grammy Award-winning producer, is a 20-year music industry veteran. He started out playing bass at the age of 13, and got his big break when he joined the band Journey. Randy also spent eight years as Vice President of A&R at Columbia Records, followed by four years as Senior V.P. of A&R at MCA Records.

Randy has recorded, toured and performed with the likes of: Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, *NSYNC, Madonna, Elton John and Destiny's Child, among others. He has worked on over 1,000 gold and multi-platinum albums. His contributions have helped to sell over 200 million albums worldwide. With his talent, immense studio knowledge and record company experience, Randy is one of today's most highly regarded music industry experts.

Last fall, Randy launched his own radio countdown show, Randy Jackson's Hit List, for the Westwood One Radio Network.

One of the industry's most sought after songwriters and producers, Kara DioGuardi's songs have appeared on more than 100 million records. They have been recorded by Grammy award-winning artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, and many more.

Over the last four years, she has been awarded 10 BMI Pop Awards for having written the most performed songs on radio. From her catalog of several hundred songs, over 264 have been released on major labels worldwide; and over 165 have appeared on multi-platinum selling albums. Kara co-owns Arthouse Entertainment, where she develops and mentors fellow hit writers, producers and artists.

RYAN SEACREST

With his thriving broadcasting career and multiple ventures in media, it's no wonder Ryan Seacrest is at the forefront of entertainment. While hosting and producing multiple television and radio programs, building his Ryan Seacrest Production Company (RSP) into a viable entity that creates content for all media platforms, and investing in a myriad of restaurant ventures, Ryan is redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur.
