The weather in my neck of the woods (Northern California) is getting to feel more and more like summer. I woke up to this song this morning and was immediately put into a fantastic mood. The defining summer song for me, and I'm sure many of you. Although Will Smith got famous for his TV show, him and DJ Jazzy Jeff made dope music first. Always good to revisit old classics, enjoy.

Bon Iver

Bon Iver's frontman: Justin Vernon

A little changeup here from my prior blogs in the past. For the longest time, I was a hip-hop man only. But lately, I am proud to say that has changed. I have developed an infinity towards folk/indie music as of late, and this band has been the sole reason for it. Bon Iver, a band lead by frontman Justin Vernon, makes simply: beautiful music. This song is off of their debut album, "For Emma, Forever Ago". The story goes that Justin Vernon locked himself off from society for a few months in a cabin Wisconson, and this is what he came up with.

If you're skeptical, just give this song a listen. I would've thought the same thing not more than a few months ago. But it has definitely opened my eyes to an entire new spectrum of music.

Blu

Just recently did a little digging into Blu’s solo work. If you don't know Blu, you should. Coming out of Los Angeles, he is well known for his laid-back, personal approach to hip-hop, and his chill beats. He is as prolific a producer as he is an MC. He has a lot of material, probably more than 200+ tracks he's been involved in during his short music career. Loved his collab with Exile (Under The Heavens), so I figured his solo stuff would be more of the same. Luckily I was right. I love jazz influenced hip-hop, and this is a perfect example of it. This cut is from one of his first projects, dropped unexpectedly on Valentine's Day a few years ago, named "Her Favorite Colo(u)r.". The song's called Amnesia, and features an amazing sample from Billie Holiday.
